The Kays to Wheeler Creek Transmission Line Project kicked off with a trio of open houses by Hoosier Energy and Wayne-White Counties Electric Cooperative during the first week of March.

The proposed rebuild and upgrade of 28 miles of transmission line will take place in Wayne-White territory between the Fairfield South Substation and Wheeler Creek Substation in southern Illinois.

With offices in Fairfield and Enfield, Wayne-White currently provides service to over 14,200 meters in 11 counties in southeastern Illinois.

Some areas of the existing transmission line may need to be rerouted in order to safely establish new structures. The existing 69 kV wooden monopoles will be upgraded to 138 kV galvanized steel monopoles. The improvements will strengthen the system, enhance reliability and support efficient operations for years to come.

The project team hosted an in-person open house in each of the three counties represented in the project’s study area. Taking place in Wayne City, McLeansboro and Carmi, these events provided community members and landowners with an opportunity to learn more about the project, discuss questions/concerns and provide input on the proposed route segments.
