No m\u00eas passado, Andrew Korte, do Harrison REMC, se viu no lugar certo na hora certa.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Ao investigar uma reclama\u00e7\u00e3o sobre ru\u00eddo de r\u00e1dio feita por um operador de r\u00e1dio amador em um bairro a mais de 24 quil\u00f4metros da sede, Korte teve uma surpresa que n\u00e3o tinha nada a ver com postes ou linhas.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Um colega no caminh\u00e3o que o acompanhava disse a Korte: \u201cEi, tem algu\u00e9m no seu caminh\u00e3o\u201d.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Assim que a onda de p\u00e2nico passou, Korte notou algumas coisas sobre o visitante. Primeiro, a porta traseira do passageiro era a que estava aberta, uma escolha estranha. E, segundo, Korte s\u00f3 conseguia ver um par de p\u00e9s com meias.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

"Eu disse: 'Senhor, posso ajud\u00e1-lo com alguma coisa?'", lembra Korte. "Ele disse: 'Estou procurando meus sapatos'.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u201cEsse foi o primeiro sinal para mim de que t\u00ednhamos um problema.\u201d<\/p>\n

N\u00e3o seria a \u00faltima.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Enquanto o resto da equipe do Harrison REMC encontrou problemas em dois postes, o que os obrigou a cortar uma se\u00e7\u00e3o da linha e subir nos postes para fazer os reparos necess\u00e1rios, Korte come\u00e7ou a chegar ao fundo do problema com o Shoeless Joe que ele havia encontrado.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u201cEu estava tentando descobrir se ele estava apenas tentando encontrar algo no caminh\u00e3o ou se ele realmente tinha um problema\u201d, disse Korte.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Os dois continuaram conversando, durante a qual o homem n\u00e3o identificado fez a mesma pergunta v\u00e1rias vezes: \u201cPara quem voc\u00ea trabalha?\u201d<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

"Ele ficava perguntando isso sem parar, ent\u00e3o eu sabia que algo estava errado", disse Korte. "A\u00ed ele come\u00e7ou a falar sobre como seus p\u00e9s do\u00edam, e \u00e9 claro que do\u00edam, j\u00e1 que ele estava de meias."<\/p>\n

O eletricista e t\u00e9cnico de medidores ent\u00e3o convidaram o homem a sentar-se no caminh\u00e3o e deixar o sol que entrava pelo para-brisa aquec\u00ea-lo.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Enquanto isso, Korte ligou para o despachante da Harrison, Dave Satori, com um pedido.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

"Eu disse: 'Ei, se voc\u00ea n\u00e3o estiver muito ocupado, poderia tentar descobrir quem \u00e9 esse cara? Ele diz que mora aqui, mas acho que ele tem dem\u00eancia porque n\u00e3o se lembra do nome.'"<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Satori fez exatamente isso, ligando para v\u00e1rias casas no condom\u00ednio e finalmente conseguindo que um dos vizinhos confirmasse que o homem morava l\u00e1, mas eles n\u00e3o tinham certeza de qual casa era a dele.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u201cDave fez o trabalho duro, eu apenas continuei conversando e o mantive confort\u00e1vel\u201d, disse Korte. \u201cMinha preocupa\u00e7\u00e3o era que ele estava determinado a encontrar os sapatos e queria continuar andando, mas eu n\u00e3o queria que ele se perdesse e se perdesse.\u201d<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

"N\u00e3o est\u00e1vamos muito longe de uma rodovia movimentada, e eu conseguia v\u00ea-lo indo longe demais. Havia um monte de coisas passando pela minha cabe\u00e7a, e eu queria que algu\u00e9m soubesse onde ele estava."<\/p>\n

Eles finalmente ligaram para o gabinete do xerife, e um policial apareceu at\u00e9 que finalmente conseguiram falar com a esposa dele para resolver a situa\u00e7\u00e3o e o local.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u201cSinceramente, foi muito legal conversar com o cara\u201d, disse Korte. \u201cEra incr\u00edvel o quanto ele se lembrava e o que sabia, mas eram as coisas simples que ele n\u00e3o fazia ideia. Perguntei o que ele gostava de comer e ele me lan\u00e7ou um olhar estranho. Ele n\u00e3o fazia ideia. Mas ele se lembrava de onde trabalhava e conversou comigo como se me conhecesse a vida toda. Foi muito triste ver.\u201d<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

O homem tamb\u00e9m fez uma piada quando Korte perguntou como ele tinha sa\u00eddo de casa. Com uma express\u00e3o s\u00e9ria, ele respondeu a Korte: "Filho, n\u00e3o foi f\u00e1cil."<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Mas estender a m\u00e3o foi f\u00e1cil para Korte, que trabalhou no Harrison REMC por seis anos, depois de passar os cinco anos anteriores no Clark County REMC.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n
