Safe Electricity Is Electric Cooperatives' Goal

Safety is the top priority for Indiana's electric cooperatives who have entered into a public awareness partnership with Safe Electricity .

Indiana's Touchstone Energy cooperatives are observing National Electrical Safety Month in May by making a year-round commitment to public outreach on electric safety.

Electrical accidents and fires kill or injure thousands of people each year. The majority of these accidents can be prevented if people understand the dangers and steps they can take to be safe.

Safe Electricity is an award winning safety program designed to complement the existing safety education activities of utilities and educators. The Indiana partnership reflects an expanding interest in the Safe Electricity program's education benefits nationwide.

Safe Electricity promotes safety messages and information through a variety of communication efforts including a comprehensive web site, multi-media public service announcements, news releases and more. Topics address home safety, youth, agribusiness, and contractor safety.

The user-friendly web site www.SafeElectricity.org is a virtual library of safety information. Interactive safety games and activities for children and additional teacher resources such as lesson plans and classroom experiments are also available.
