Load Control Program

The Energy Management Program provides a cost effective means to reduce peak demand through the use of load control switches primarily on air conditioners (including electric and geothermal heat pumps) and water heaters. Energy Management events occur during periods when the system is forecasted to be at peak load, typically during the hottest and coldest days of the year. During an event, electric water heaters are de-energized and air conditioning systems are cycled down. The switches installed on these devices are operated by Hoosier Energy or the member cooperative through various means including Advanced Meter Infrastructure systems and Radio Data System technology. Eleven of Hoosier Energy's member cooperatives participate in the Load Control Program.

When activated during system peak, the switches cycle down the cooling units. These switches are only activated during the summer and are assumed to achieve a reduction of 1 kW each.
Number of Devices Controlled since Program Launch (Custom Application) 0
Information Number of Devices Controlled since Program Launch (Custom Application)
Total number of load control switches or load reduction devices installed in unique load reducing installations since the program's inception on January 1, 2010. An example is devices installed on homes that switch to whole house generators during load control sessions.
Estimated Summer Peak kW Demand Savings (Current Year) 0
Information Estimated Summer Peak kW Demand Savings
Estimated Summer Peak kW Demand Savings is the anticipated reduction in load, displayed in kW, which Hoosier Energy or the member cooperatives will achieve during energy management sessions in the summer of the present year.
Estimated Winter Peak kW Demand Savings (Current Year) 0
Information Estimated Winter Peak kW Demand Savings
Estimated Winter Peak kW Demand Savings is the anticipated reduction in load, displayed in kW, which Hoosier Energy or the member cooperatives will achieve during energy management sessions in the winter of the present year.

Number of Devices Controlled in 2012 (Water Heaters) 0
  Information Water Heater Switches
Total number of energy management switches installed on electric hot water heaters since the program's inception on January 1 of this year. When activated during system peak, these switches turn off the hot water heaters and are individually assumed to achieve a .4 kW reduction during the summer and a .8 kW reduction during the winter.
